Verse 1778 — meaning
The body, the Lord hidden within it as its substance, and the soul: the Lord brings these three together and has them take birth in the water within the mother's womb. In that birth, as the soul works out its desires, attachments form from the many kinds of deeds it gathers by doing so. To remove those attachments the Lord looks with his sacred eye and grants the initiation of the eye, nayana deeksha; he lays his sacred hands upon the soul and grants it refuge, the initiation of touch, sparisa deeksha; and in the space of a moment he sets down his sacred feet and grants the initiation of the feet, thiruvadi deeksha. Through these he makes for the soul the subtle awareness that is wisdom and grants the initiation of wisdom, gnana deeksha, and so he showed in his grace the way out of the cycle of birth that stretches on and on through suffering. This is the Lord who stands within as the Gurunathan.
