5. ஆத்ம லிங்கம்

ஓங்கார தத்துவத்தில் அகார எழுத்தின் முதலாகி அனைத்துமாக நிற்பதுவும்,

In the principle of the Omkara, that which stands as the first of the letter a (அ) and as all things,

உகார எழுத்தின் முதலாகி அனைத்து உயிர்களின் இயக்கமாக நிற்பதுவும்,

and that which stands as the first of the letter u (உ) and as the movement of every life,

அகார எழுத்தின் தத்துவமும் உகார எழுத்தின் தத்துவமும் ஆகிய இரண்டுமாக இருப்பதுமாகிய பரம்பொருளை, உள்ளுக்குள் உணர்ந்து அறிந்துகொண்டால்,

and that which is both the principle of the letter a (அ) and the principle of the letter u (உ): if one realizes and knows that supreme being within oneself,

அந்த அகார எழுத்தாகவும் உகார எழுத்தாகவும் தமக்குள் இருக்கின்ற பரம்பொருளின் இலிங்க வடிவமே ஆத்மா ஆகும் என்பதை அறிந்துகொள்ளலாம்.

one may know that the lingam form of the supreme being, which stands within one as the letter a (அ) and the letter u (உ), is the soul itself.

அனைத்திற்கும் ஆதாரமாகிய மாபெரும் தெய்வமாக இருக்கின்ற விந்து எனும் வெளிச்சச் சக்தியும்,

The power of vindhu, which is light and which stands as the great deity that is the support of all,

அதற்கு மேலாக ஆதியிலிருந்தே இருக்கின்ற நாதம் எனும் சத்தச் சக்தியும், ஒன்றன் மீது ஒன்றாகவே அனைத்திலும் விரிந்து பரந்து இருக்கின்றன.

and above it the power of nada, which is sound and which has been from the very beginning, are spread and expanded through all things, the one upon the other.

இதில், ஆதாரமாகிய விந்து சக்திக்கு மேன்மை தருகின்ற பீடமே நாத சக்தி ஆகும்.

Of these two, the pedestal that gives eminence to the power of vindhu, which is the support, is the power of nada.

எப்போதுமே பிரிந்து போகாத இந்த இரண்டு சக்திகளும் இலிங்க வடிவத்தில் கலந்து இருக்கின்ற நிலையே ஆத்ம இலிங்கம் ஆகும்.

And the state in which these two powers, which never part from each other, mingle together in the lingam form is the atma lingam.

எப்போதும் பிரியாமல் இறைவனும் இறைவியும் சேர்ந்தே இருக்கின்ற ஆத்ம இலிங்கமே உடலாக இருக்கின்றது.

The atma lingam in which God and the Goddess are always together and never part is itself the body.

அந்த ஆத்ம இலிங்கத்தில், உடல், இறைவனிடமிருந்து பிரிந்து வந்த ஆன்மா, இறைவன் ஆகிய மூன்றும் கலந்து இருக்கின்றன.

In that atma lingam three are mingled: the body, the soul that came apart from God, and God himself.

இப்படி மூன்றும் கலந்து பிண்டத்தில் இருக்கின்ற ஆத்ம இலிங்கமே, அண்ட சராசரங்களிலும் விரிந்து பரவி இருக்கின்ற பரம்பொருளாகவும் இருக்கின்றது.

The atma lingam that stands so in the microcosm with those three mingled is also the supreme being that is spread and expanded through the universe with all its moving and unmoving beings.

இப்படி அண்டத்திலும் பிண்டத்திலும் இருக்கின்ற ஆத்ம இலிங்கமானது, தானாகவே அனைத்துமாகவும் இருக்கின்ற பரம்பொருளாக இருக்கின்றது.

And the atma lingam that is thus in the macrocosm and in the microcosm alike is the supreme being that of itself is all things.

தானாகவே இருக்கின்ற பரம்பொருளை உணர்ந்துகொண்டவர்கள், தமக்குள் இருக்கின்ற சுழுமுனை நாடியின் வழியே மூலாதாரத்திலிருந்து நேராக எழுந்து மேலே வருகின்ற ஜோதியைக் காணலாம்.

Those who have realized the supreme being that is of itself may see the flame of light that rises straight up from the muladhara within them along the sushumna nadi.

அப்போது, அண்டத்தில் உள்ள அனைத்திற்கும் அதனதன் தன்மைக்கு ஏற்பச் சரிசமமாக எழுந்து இருக்கின்ற இறைவனுடைய ஐந்து பூதங்களும் தமக்குள்ளும் இருக்கின்றன என்கின்ற உணர்வு வந்துவிட்டால்,

And when the awareness comes to them that the five elements of God, which rise in equal measure in everything in the universe each according to its own nature, are within themselves too,

சகஸ்ரதளத்தில் உள்ள ஆயிரம் இதழ் கொண்ட தாமரை மலரில், சுழுமுனை நாடிக்கு நேராக எழுகின்ற, பொன் போலப் பிரகாசிக்கும் கொடியாக வீற்றிருக்கும் இறைவியுடன், தாமாகவே எப்போதும் சேர்ந்தே எழுந்தருளும் இறைவனை உணரலாம்.

then in the thousand-petalled lotus of the sahasradala they may realize God, who always rises of himself together with the Goddess, who is seated there as a creeper shining like gold, rising straight along the sushumna.

ஓங்காரத்தில் அகார எழுத்தாக இருக்கின்ற ஆத்ம இலிங்கத்தின் தத்துவம் இதுவே ஆகும்.

This is the very principle of the atma lingam that stands as the letter a (அ) in the Omkara.

விந்து எனும் வெளிச்சமும் நாதம் எனும் சத்தமும் சரிசமமாகப் பொருந்தி இருப்பதே ஆத்ம இலிங்கம் ஆகும்.

The atma lingam is the equal joining of vindhu, which is light, and nada, which is sound.

வெளிச்சமானது அந்த இலிங்கத்தின் பீடமாகவும், சத்தமானது அந்த இலிங்கத்தின் பாணமாகவும் இருக்கின்றது.

The light stands as the pedestal of that lingam and the sound as its shaft.

அந்த வெளிச்சம், சத்தம் ஆகிய இரண்டையும் ஆதாரமாகக் கொண்டு வீற்றிருக்கின்ற தெய்வங்களாக,

And resting upon those two, the light and the sound, are seated the deities of action,

ஆத்ம இலிங்கத்தில் கருவாக வந்த ஐந்து தெய்வங்களும், தமக்குள்ளிருந்தே ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் உரிய ஐந்து விதமான தொழில்களைப் புரிகின்றனர்.

the five deities who came as the seed in the atma lingam, and from within it each of them performs the work that is his own, the five kinds of work in all.

ஆத்ம இலிங்கத்திற்கு உள்ளிருந்து ஐந்து தொழில்களையும் புரிகின்ற இறை சக்தியானது, நன்மையான ஆத்ம இலிங்கத்தின் பீடத்தில், சாதகரின் பக்குவத்திற்குத் தகுந்தபடி நன்மையைக் கொடுத்துச் செயல்படுகின்ற ஆத்ம தத்துவமாக இருக்கின்றது.

The divine power that performs the five works from within the atma lingam stands, in the pedestal of that good atma lingam, as the principle of the soul, which gives good and acts according to the ripeness of the seeker.

ஆத்ம இலிங்கத்தின் பாணத்தில், சாதகரின் பக்குவத்திற்குத் தகுந்தபடி செயல்படுகின்ற ஞான தத்துவமாக இருக்கின்றது.

In the shaft of the atma lingam it stands as the principle of knowledge, which acts according to the ripeness of the seeker.

ஆத்ம இலிங்கத்தில், சாதகரின் பக்குவத்திற்குத் தகுந்தபடி செயல்படுகின்ற சிவ தத்துவமாக இருக்கின்றது.

In the atma lingam itself it stands as the principle of Sivam, which acts according to the ripeness of the seeker.

இப்படி ஐந்து தொழில்களையும் புரிகின்ற இறை சக்தியாகிய, நன்மையைக் கொடுக்கின்ற ஆத்ம இலிங்கமே, அனைத்திற்கும் மேலான பரம்பொருளாகத் தானே இருக்கின்றது.

And that good-giving atma lingam, which is the divine power performing the five works, is itself the supreme being above all things.

அனைத்திற்கும் மேலான பரம்பொருளாகத் தமது ஆத்ம இலிங்கமே இருக்கின்ற தத்துவத்தை உணர்ந்துகொண்டவர்களின் மனதிற்குள் இறைவன் புகுந்து, அவர்களுடைய உயிரோடு பொருந்தி, வாழ்க்கையில் எப்போதும் உடன் இருந்து,

God enters into the mind of those who have realized the principle that their own atma lingam is the supreme being above all things, joins with their life, and remains always with them in their living.

அனைத்து விதமான இன்பங்களையும் வாரி வழங்கும்போது,

And when he pours out upon them every kind of joy,

நலங்களெல்லாம் அவர்களுக்குள் புகுந்து, அனைத்திற்கும் தலைவனாகிய இறைவனோடு அவர்கள் ஒன்றாகக் கலந்திருக்க,

all good things enter into them, and they mingle as one with God who is the Lord of all,

உலகத்தில் புகுந்து வீற்றிருக்கும் அந்த ஆதிப் பரம்பொருள், அவர்களுடைய ஆன்மாவை மேன்மைப்படுத்தி ஆட்கொண்டு அருளி, நன்மையின் வழியில் நடத்துகின்றான்.

and that primal supreme being, who has entered and is seated in the world, raises up their soul, takes them for his own and graces them, and leads them in the way of good.

அனைத்திற்கும் மேலான பரம்பொருளானவனும், எமது தந்தையானவனும், தன் தலையில் குளிர்ச்சியான நிலவைச் சூடிக்கொண்டு இருப்பவனும்,

He who is the supreme being above all things, who is our father, who wears the cool moon upon his head,

உலகங்களுக்கெல்லாம் தலைவனானவனும், தமது அடியார்களின் மனதையே தமக்கு விருப்பமான கோயிலாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு வீற்றிருப்பவனும்,

who is Lord of all the worlds, who takes the very mind of his devotees as the temple he loves and is seated there,

தேவர்களுக்கும் மேலான தேவனும், விண்ணுலகத் தேவர்களின் தலையில் நிலைபெற்று வீற்றிருப்பவனும்,

who is the God above the gods, who stands fixed upon the heads of the celestials of the sky world,

உருவம் இல்லாமல் இருக்கின்ற பரம்பொருளுமாகிய இறைவன், எமக்குள் நிலைபெற்று எமது மனதிற்குள் எப்போதும் வீற்றிருந்தான்.

and who is the supreme being without form: that God took his place within us and was seated always within our mind.

தமக்குள் தலைவனாக இருந்து செயல்பட வைக்கின்றவன் இறைவன் இல்லை என்று உலகத்தவர்கள் யாராவது சொன்னால், அவர்கள் அறியாதவர்களே.

If anyone in the world says that it is not God who stands as the Lord within them and makes them act, they are the ones who do not know.

ஏனென்றால், அனைவருக்கும் உள்ளுக்குள் இருந்து ஓதுபவனாகிய இறைவன், அடியவரது மனதையே கோயிலாகக் கொண்டு நிற்கின்றான்.

For God, who from within recites to every one of them, takes the very mind of his devotee as his temple and stands there.

தலையில் பாம்பை அணிந்த செழுமையான சடையுடன், கையில் நெருப்பையும் நீரையும் ஏந்திக்கொண்டு,

He wears the serpent in the rich matted hair upon his head, and bears fire and water in his hands,

தனக்கு ஒப்பும் உவமையும் இல்லாதவனாகத் தனித்து நின்று, அடியவரை நன்மைகள் செய்ய வைத்து, அதன் புண்ணியங்களைத் தானே ஏற்றுக்கொள்கின்றான்.

and standing alone, with none like him and nothing to compare him to, he makes his devotee do good deeds and himself accepts the merit of them.

ஆத்ம இலிங்க வடிவத்தில், அடி முடி காண முடியாத அண்ணாமலையாக அன்று நின்றான் இறைவன்; ஐந்து பூதங்களுடன் சேர்ந்தே கிடந்தான் இறைவன்.

In the form of the atma lingam, God stood that day as Annamalai, whose foot and crown cannot be seen, and God lay together with the five elements.

அவனே எல்லாக் காலத்திலும் உலகமெங்கும் சென்று, அனைத்தையும் இயங்கச் செய்து, எட்டுத் திசைகளிலும் கலந்து நிற்கின்றான்.

It is he who goes throughout the world in every age, who makes all things move, and who stands mingled in the eight directions.

அவனைப் போற்றி வணங்குகின்ற தேவர்களும், அனைத்திலும் நின்று கிடந்து இயக்குகின்றான் இறைவன் என்று சொல்லி, எமது தலைவனாகிய அந்த இறைவனைத் தாங்களும் நின்று போற்றி வணங்குவார்கள்.

The celestials who praise and worship him say that God stands and lies and moves within all things, and they too stand and praise and worship that God who is our Lord.

அவன் எம்மோடு கலந்து நின்று, எமது உள்ளத்திற்கு உள்ளே வீற்றிருந்தான்.

And he mingled with us and stood, and was seated within our heart.
