விந்து எனும் வெளிச்சமும் நாதம் எனும் சத்தமும் சரிசமமாகப் பொருந்தி இருப்பதே ஆத்ம இலிங்கம் ஆகும். வெளிச்சமானது அந்த இலிங்கத்தின் பீடமாகவும், சத்தமானது அந்த இலிங்கத்தின் பாணமாகவும் இருக்கின்றது. அந்த வெளிச்சம், சத்தம் ஆகிய இரண்டையும் ஆதாரமாகக் கொண்டு வீற்றிருக்கின்ற தெய்வங்களாக, ஆத்ம இலிங்கத்தில் கருவாக வந்த ஐந்து தெய்வங்களும், தமக்குள்ளிருந்தே ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் உரிய ஐந்து விதமான தொழில்களைப் புரிகின்றனர்.
