திருமூலர் அருளிய திருமந்திரம்
8. அடிமுடி தேடல்

பிரளயம் முடிந்து புதிய உலகங்கள் உருவான காலத்தில், உலகங்கள் அனைத்திலும் புதிய உயிர்களைப் படைப்பதால் தாமே இறைவன் என்று பிரமனும்,

At the time when the cataclysm had ended and new worlds had come into being, Brahma, because he created new beings in all the worlds, thought that he himself was God,

அந்த உயிர்கள் அனைத்தையும் காப்பதால் தாமே இறைவன் என்று திருமாலும், அறியாமையால் ஒருவரையொருவர் எண்ணிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

and Thirumal, because he protected all those beings, likewise thought out of ignorance that he himself was God.

அப்போது இறைவன் அவர்கள் முன்பு ஒரு மாபெரும் தீப்பிழம்பாக வந்து நின்று, இந்தப் பிழம்பின் அடியையோ உச்சியையோ காண்பவரே இறைவன் என்று கூறினான்.

Then God came and stood before them as a great pillar of flame, and said that whoever could find the foot or the crown of this pillar would be God.

இருவரும் தீப்பிழம்பின் அடியையும் உச்சியையும் காண இயலாமல் புலம்பத் தொடங்கினர்.

Both of them, unable to find either the foot or the crown of that pillar of flame, began to lament.

பிரமனும் திருமாலும் அடியையோ உச்சியையோ காணமுடியாத அளவிற்கு, ஈரேழு பதினான்கு உலகங்களையும் கடந்து நிற்கின்றான் எம்பெருமான் சதாசிவமூர்த்தி.

God, our Lord Sadashivamurthi, stands transcending all fourteen worlds, so far beyond that neither Brahma nor Thirumal could find his foot or his crown.

அவன் தானாகவே ஏழுலகிற்கும் தீப்பிழம்பாக நிற்கின்றான்.

He himself stands as a pillar of flame for the seven worlds.

ஏழுலகமும் வியாபித்திருக்கும் வானத்திலும் மாபெரும் ஒளிப்பிழம்பாக ஊடுருவி நிற்பவன், நீலநிறமடைந்த கழுத்தை உடைய சிவபெருமான்.

He who pierces through and stands as a mighty pillar of light even in the sky that pervades all seven worlds is Sivaperuman of the blue throat.

இறைவன் என்னை ஆட்கொண்ட இறைத்தன்மையாலேயே நானும் இதை அறிந்தேன்.

It is by the very grace of God, who took hold of me, that I too came to know this.

சதாசிவமூர்த்தியாகிய இறைவன் ஒருவனே, அனைத்து உயிர்களினுடைய உடம்பாகவும் உயிராகவும் உணர்வாகவும் உள்ளிருக்கும் நெருப்பாகவும் இருக்கின்றான்.

God, who is Sadashivamurthi, alone is the body, the life, the awareness, and the indwelling fire of all beings.

மண்ணுக்கும் விண்ணுக்கும் ஓங்கி நின்ற தீப்பிழம்பு உருவமாகவும் இருக்கின்றான்.

He stands as the form of a pillar of flame rising up between earth and sky.

அண்டங்கள் அனைத்தையும் தாங்கி நிற்கும் தூணாகவும், சூரியனாகவும், குளிர்ந்த சந்திரனாகவும் இருக்கின்றான்.

He is the pillar that bears up all the worlds, the sun, and the cool moon.

பரவியிருக்கின்ற அண்டங்கள் மொத்தமும் தானாகவே ஆகி நிற்கின்றான்.

And he himself becomes and remains all the countless worlds that are spread out.

மண்ணுலகிலிருந்து அண்டங்கள் அனைத்தையும் தன்னுள் அடக்கிக்கொண்டு, விண்ணுலகமும் தாண்டி நீண்டு வளர்ந்த தீப்பிழம்பாக நின்றான் சதாசிவமூர்த்தி.

Sadashivamurthi stood as a pillar of flame that drew all the worlds into itself from the earth below and grew tall, stretching beyond the heavens above.

அவனது அந்த அக்னி உருவத்தை ஆராயத் தொடங்கி, பிரமன் இறைவனின் திருமுடியைக் காணவும், திருமால் இறைவனின் திருவடியைக் காணவும் சென்றனர்.

Setting out to search that form of fire, Brahma went to find God's crown and Thirumal went to find God's feet.

பிரமன் மேலே மேலே சென்றுகொண்டே இருக்க இறைவனின் திருமுடி மேலே வளர்ந்துகொண்டே இருந்தது; திருமால் கீழே கீழே சென்றுகொண்டே இருக்க, நன்மையருளும் இறைவனின் கழல்கள் அணிந்த திருவடியும் கீழே வளர்ந்துகொண்டே இருந்தது.

As Brahma went up and up, God's crown kept growing higher still; as Thirumal went down and down, God's feet, adorned with anklets and granting all good, kept growing lower still.

இருவருக்கும் எதையும் காண இயலவில்லை. இறைவனை உணர்ந்தால் அவன் எந்த உருவத்தில் இருந்தாலும் அறியலாம்; அவனை ஆராய்ச்சி செய்து தெரிந்துகொள்ள முயன்றால் அவனை அறிய இயலாது.

Neither of them could find anything. If one comes to know God, one can recognize him in whatever form he takes; but one who tries to know him by searching and investigating cannot come to know him.

இறைவனின் சிவந்த திருவடிகளைப் போற்றி வணங்கும் பலகோடி தேவர்களும், மாபலியிடம் மூன்றடி நிலம் தா என்று கேட்டு வென்ற திருமாலும்,

However far the countless celestials who worship and praise God's red feet, and Thirumal who won by asking Mahabali for three feet of land, may wander in search,

இறைவனிடம் அருள் வேண்டித் தவமிருக்கும் முனிவர்களும், இறைவன் வகுத்துக்கொடுத்த வேதங்களை ஓதி உயிர்களைப் படைக்கும் பிரமனும்,

and the sages who perform austerities seeking his grace, and Brahma who chants the Vedas that God laid out and creates beings with them,

எவ்வளவு தூரம் அலைந்து தேடினாலும் இறைவனின் திருவடிகளையோ திருமுடியையோ காணமுடியாது.

they cannot find God's feet or his crown.

தேவர்களும், முனிவர்களும், திருமாலும், பிரமனும் எவ்வளவு உயர்ந்த இறைநிலையில் இருந்தாலும், நானே செய்கிறேன் என்ற எண்ணத்துடன் இறைவனைத் தமக்குள் உணராமல் வெளியில் தேடினால், இறைவனைக் காணமுடியாது.

However exalted the celestials, the sages, Thirumal or Brahma may be in their divine station, if they search for God outside themselves while holding to the thought that they themselves are the ones who act, and fail to realize him within, they cannot see God.

நான்கு முகங்களோடு தாமரை மலரை இருப்பிடமாகக் கொண்டு அமர்ந்திருக்கும் பிரமனும்,

Brahma, who sits with four faces on the lotus flower as his abode,

கருமையான நிறத்தோடு பாற்கடலை இருப்பிடமாகக் கொண்டு படுத்திருக்கும் திருமாலும்,

and Thirumal, dark in hue, who reclines on the ocean of milk as his abode,

ஊழிக்காலத்தில் அழிவின் தலைவனாக இருக்கும் உருத்திரனும்,

and Rudra, who is the lord of destruction at the time of the cataclysm,

உயிர்களினுடைய உடலாகவும் உயிராகவும் உயிரின் உணர்வாகவும் உயிர்களுடன் கலந்திருக்கும் மாபெரும் பரம்பொருளாகிய சதாசிவமூர்த்தியின் தன்மையை ஒத்தவர்களாக ஆகமுடியாது.

none of them can equal the nature of Sadashivamurthi, the great supreme being who dwells mingled with all beings as their body, their life, and the awareness of that life.

அண்டங்கள் அனைத்திலும் இரண்டறக் கலந்து எழுந்து நின்ற மாபெரும் தீப்பிழம்பான பரம்பொருள்,

The supreme being, the great pillar of flame that rose up mingled inseparably with all the worlds,

உயிர்கள் தன்னை நாடி வந்து சேரும் பொருட்டுப் பேரருள் கொண்டு உண்மையான வழிமுறைகளைக் கொடுத்து, உலகத்துப் பொருள்கள் அனைத்திலும் கலந்து உலா வருகிறது.

moves about mingled in all the things of this world, giving true paths in his boundless grace so that beings may come and reach him.

இறைவனை அடையவேண்டும் என்ற உயர்ந்த குறிக்கோளுடன் அந்த உண்மையான வழிமுறைகளைப் பின்பற்றினால், எல்லாவற்றிலும் கலந்திருக்கும், அடிமுடி காணமுடியாத பரம்பொருளாகிய இறைவனை உணரலாம்.

If one follows those true paths with the high resolve of reaching God, one can realize the supreme being who is mingled in everything and whose foot and crown cannot be found.

அடிமுடி காணமுடியாத அளவு மிகப்பெரும் மகோன்னதம் மிக்கவனாய், இறைவன் காட்டிய அந்த நெறிவழிகளைப் பின்பற்றிச் சென்றால், எல்லாவற்றிலும் கலந்திருக்கும் அடிமுடி காணமுடியாத பரம்பொருள் இறைவனை உணரலாம்.

Being of such immeasurable greatness that his foot and crown cannot be found, if one follows the path he himself showed, one can realize that supreme being, mingled in everything, whose foot and crown cannot be found.

ஒளி பொருந்திய உடலைக் கொடுத்த இறைவனை வழிபடுகின்ற தேவர்கள், நம்மைப் போல இறைவனிடம் தம்மையே ஒப்படைத்தாலும், இறைவனின் தன்மையை அறியமாட்டார்கள்.

The celestials, who worship God, the giver of a body of light, do not come to know God's nature even though they surrender themselves to him as we do.

இறைவனிடம் தன்னைக் கொடுத்தால் இறைவனை அறியலாம். தன்னைக் கொடுத்தவர்க்கு இறைவனும் தன்னையும் தந்து பேரின்பத்தையும் தருவான்.

If one gives oneself to God, one can know God. To the one who gives himself, God gives himself in turn and grants supreme bliss.

அந்த இன்பத்திலேயே மூழ்கித் தம்மை மறந்துவிடாதிருக்க வலிமை பெறும் பொருட்டு, தம் திருவடியையும் தருகிறான் இறைவன்.

So that one does not drown in that bliss and forget oneself, God also gives, for the strength needed, his own sacred feet.

ஆனால் நாம் இறைவனின் திருவடியைச் சார்ந்திருப்பதைப்போல, தேவர்கள் இறைவனின் திருவடியைச் சார்ந்திருக்கவில்லை.

But the celestials have not held to God's sacred feet the way we hold to them.

ஊழிக்காலம் முடிந்ததும், இறைவனைச் சரணடைந்து ஒளி உடலோடு வாழும் அடியவர்களில் ஒருவரை, நான்கு முகங்கள் கொண்டு படைத்தல் தொழில் புரியும் பிரமனின் தொழிலைச் செய்ய இறைவன் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கின்றான்.

When the cataclysm ends, God chooses one of the devotees who had taken refuge in him and lived on with a body of light to carry out the work of Brahma, who creates with his four faces.

புதிதாகப் பிரமனின் தொழில் பெற்ற அந்த அடியவரும் இறைவனை நாடிவந்து, என்ன வேலை செய்யவேண்டும் என்று தந்தருளுங்கள் என வேண்டிக்கொள்ள, ஊழிக்காலத்தில் அனைத்தையும் சுட்டெரிக்கும் சூரியனையும் மிஞ்சி நிற்கும் மாபெரும் ஒளியாகிய இறைவனும், அவருக்குப் படைக்கும் தொழிலைக் கொடுத்தருளினான்.

That devotee, newly given Brahma's work, comes to God and prays, asking to be told what work is to be done, and God, the mighty light who surpasses even the sun that burns away everything at the time of the cataclysm, graciously gives him the work of creation.

பிரமனும் திருமாலும் உலகத் தொழில்கள் செய்யும் தேவர்களும் அனைவருமே, பல காலமாக இறைவனின் அடியவர்களாக இருந்து தவம் புரிந்தவர்கள்தான்.

Brahma, Thirumal, and all the celestials who carry out the world's works have themselves, for long ages, been devotees of God performing austerities.

தற்போது இருக்கும் பிரமன், திருமால், உலகத் தொழில்கள் செய்யும் தேவர்கள் ஆகியோரின் பதவிக் காலம் முடிந்ததும், அடுத்த அடியவர்களுக்கு அத்தொழிலைச் செய்யும் தகுதி இறைவனது திருவருளால் கிடைத்தபின், அவர்களுக்கு ஏற்ற தொழிலை இறைவன் கொடுத்தருளுகின்றான்.

When the term of office of the present Brahma, Thirumal, and the celestials who carry out the world's works comes to an end, and by God's grace the next devotees become worthy to take up that work, God graciously gives each of them the work fitting to him.
