20. அதோமுக தரிசனம்

தேவர்களை விட அசுரர்கள் வலிமை பெற்றுத் தேவர்களைத் துன்புறுத்திட,

When the asuras grew stronger than the gods and began to torment them,

தேவர்கள் சிவபெருமானை நோக்கி, எம்பெருமானே இறைவா, நாங்கள் அசுரர்களால் துன்பப்படுகின்றோமே, இது சரியா, எங்களைக் காப்பாற்றுங்கள் என்று கூறி வேண்டினர்.

the gods went before Shiva and pleaded, our lord, our God, we suffer at the hands of the asuras, is this right, save us.

சிவபெருமான் தற்பரன் நிலையில் நின்று, தன் இதயத்திலிருக்கும் ஒளியாகிய அழகிய பவளம் போன்ற திருமேனியுடைய ஆறுமுகனிடம்,

Shiva, standing in his state as thatparan, spoke to Arumugan, of coral like radiant form, the light within his own heart,

யாம் அளிக்கும் படையுடன் சென்று தேவர்களின் பகைவர்களான அசுரர்களை அழித்து வருவாயாக என்று கூறினார்.

and said, go with the army we grant you and destroy the asuras, the enemies of the gods.

சிவபெருமானின் ஐந்து முகங்களில் ஒன்றான அதோமுகம், அண்டங்கள் அனைத்தையும் எட்டுத் திசைகளையும் தாங்கிக் கொண்டிருப்பதை யாரும் அறியவில்லை.

No one knows that Adhomukham, one of the five faces of Shiva, supports all the universes and holds up the eight directions.

அதனால்தான் அவருடைய அதோமுகத்திற்கு அடியில் இருக்கும் கழுத்து அண்டவெளியைப் போலக் கண்டம் கருமையாய் உள்ளது என்கிற உண்மையை யாரும் அறிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை.

No one knows that it is for that reason that the throat below his Adhomukham is dark like outer space itself.

அவரை உணராதவர்கள், சிவபெருமான் நஞ்சை உண்டதால்தான் அவருடைய கழுத்து கருமையாய் இருக்கிறது என்று கூறுவார்கள்.

Those who do not perceive him say that his throat is dark because Shiva drank poison.

வெள்ளை நிறத்திலான மண்டையோடுகளை மாலையாக அணிந்து விரிந்த சடையைக் கொண்டிருக்கும் சிவபெருமானின் தன்மையை யாரும் அறியவில்லை.

No one knows the nature of Shiva, who wears a garland of white skulls and carries flowing matted hair.

செழுமையான கடல்களால் சூழப்பட்டிருக்கும் இந்த உலகத்தைப் படைத்த இறைவனுக்கு,

To the God who created this world surrounded by fertile seas,

மனிதர்களில் யாரெல்லாம் தம்மீது உண்மையான பக்தி இல்லாமல் பொய்யாகப் புகழ்ந்து போற்றுகின்றனர் என்பது நன்றாகத் தெரியும்.

it is well known which among men praise and extol him falsely, without true devotion toward him.

யாரெல்லாம் தம்மீது உண்மையான பக்தி கொண்டு போற்றி வணங்குகின்றார்களோ,

Whoever holds true devotion toward him and praises and worships him,

அவர்களை வானுலகத்துத் தேவர்களும் வந்து வணங்கச் செய்வான், அதோமுகம் கொண்ட கருத்த தொண்டையை உடைய இறைவன்.

that God with the Adhomukham face and the dark throat will make even the gods of the heavens come and worship them.

உள்ளத்தினுள் எழுந்த சக்தி மேலெழுந்து சென்று,

The power that rises within the heart ascends,

தலை உச்சியில் உள்ள செஞ்சிவப்பு நிற ஒளியுடன் கலந்து சிவமாகி நிற்கும்.

and mingling with the crimson light at the crown of the head, comes to stand as Shiva himself.

அவ்வாறு மேலெழுந்து நின்றவுடன், முன் வினைகள் அனைத்தையும் அழித்து உலகப் பற்றை அறுக்கும்.

Having so risen and stood, it destroys all past deeds and cuts off attachment to the world.

உலகமும் உடலும் ஒன்றே என்ற நிலையை அடைவித்து ஆட்கொள்வது சிவபெருமானின் அதோமுகம் ஆகும்.

It is Shiva's Adhomukham that brings one to the state where the world and the body are one, and so takes hold of the soul.

ஆதியான அதோமுகம் கொண்ட சிவபெருமான்,

Shiva, who bears the primal Adhomukham,

தனது அதோமுகத் தத்துவத்தில் தனக்குக் கீழே உள்ள அண்டம் முழுவதும் எங்கும் வியாபித்திருக்கின்றார்.

pervades everywhere within the whole universe that lies below him, through the truth of his Adhomukham.

அவரே ஓம் எனும் பிரணவ ஒலியை மாலையாக அணிந்துகொண்டு,

He it is who wears the sound of the pranava, Om, as a garland,

அழித்தலின் தலைவனாகவும் நின்று அருள் புரிகின்றார்.

and stands as the lord of destruction while granting his grace.

அதோமுகம் பெரிய தாமரை மலராக மாறிய அதிசயத்தைக் கேளுங்கள்.

Hear the wonder of how Adhomukham became a great lotus flower.

எழுந்த சக்தி உயிர்களின் தலையின் உச்சியை அடைந்து நூற்றுக்கணக்கான இதழ்களைக் கொண்ட தாமரை மலராக விரியும்.

The power that has risen reaches the crown of the head and unfolds into a lotus of a hundred petals.

அவ்வாறு விரிந்தவுடன் அழிவில்லாத சக்தியாகும்.

Once it has so unfolded, it becomes an imperishable power.

அந்தச் சிவபெருமானே அதோமுகமாகி அமர்ந்திருக்கின்றார்.

And it is Shiva himself who, having become Adhomukham, sits enthroned there.
