சிவபெருமானின் ஐந்து முகங்களில் ஒன்றான அதோமுகம், பூமி, அனைத்துக் கோள்களும் பல நட்சத்திரங்களும் உள்ளடக்கிய விண்வெளிப் பிரதேசங்கள் கொண்ட அண்டங்கள் அனைத்தையும், வடக்கு, வடகிழக்கு, கிழக்கு, தென்கிழக்கு, தெற்கு, தென்மேற்கு, மேற்கு, வடமேற்கு என எட்டுத் திசைகளையும் தாங்கிக் கொண்டிருப்பதை யாரும் அறியவில்லை. அதனால்தான் அவருடைய அதோமுகத்திற்கு அடியில் இருக்கும் கழுத்து, அண்டவெளியைப் போலக் கண்டம் கருமையாய் உள்ளது என்கிற உண்மையை யாரும் அறிந்துகொள்ளாமல், சிவபெருமான் நஞ்சை உண்டதால்தான் அவருடைய கழுத்து கருமையாய் இருக்கிறது என்று கூறுவார்கள் அவரை உணராதவர்கள். இதுபோலவே இறந்தவர்களின் ஆன்மாக்களைத் தாங்கிக்கொண்டிருப்பதை உணர்த்தும் வகையில், அவர்களின் வெள்ளை நிறத்திலான மண்டையோடுகளை மாலையாக அணிந்து விரிந்த சடையைக் கொண்டிருக்கும் சிவபெருமானின் தன்மையை யாரும் அறியவில்லை.
