மந்திரம் பெற்ற ஏழு பேர்களில் முதல் நால்வராகிய இந்திரன், சோமன், பிரமன், உருத்திரன் ஆகியோர், திசைக்கு ஒருவராய் நான்கு திசைகளுக்கும் நாதர்களாக இருந்தனர். குருவிடம் பெற்ற மந்திரத்துடன் அவர்களின் இறையனுபவமும் இறைவனின் அருளும் சேர்ந்து பல்வேறு பொருள்களை அவர்கள் கைக்கொண்டனர். தாங்கள் பெற்ற அருளையெல்லாம் மற்றவர்களும் பெற்று இன்புற வேண்டுமென்று அவர்கள் விரும்பினர். அவர்கள் நால்வரும் தேவர்களாகவும், மற்றவர்களுக்குக் குருநாதர்களாகவும் ஆனார்கள்.
The first four among the seven who received the mantras, Indiran, Soman, Piraman and Rudran, each stood as guru over one of the four directions. The mantra received from their guru joined with their own experience of God and his grace, and they took up its many meanings. They wished that others too might receive and rejoice in all the grace they themselves had gained. These four became devas, and stood as guru-lords to others.
