நந்தி அருள்பெற்ற நாதரை நாடிடின்நந்திகள் நால்வர் சிவயோக மாமுனிமன்று தொழுத பதஞ்சலி வியாக்ரமர்என்றிவர் என்னோ டெண்மரும் ஆமே.

இறைவனே குருவாய் நந்தி தேவராக வந்து உண்மைப் பொருளை உபதேசித்து அருள் பெற்று 'நாதர்' என்று பெயர் பெற்றவர்கள் யாரெனில்: சிவயோகத்தில் சிறந்திருந்ததால் 'சிவயோக மாமுனிவர்' என்று பெயர் பெற்ற சனகர், சனந்தனர், சனாதனர், சனற்குமாரர் ஆகிய நால்வர்; தில்லையில் வந்து இறைவனின் திருநடனத்தைக் கண்டுகளித்த, ஆதிசேஷனின் அவதாரமான, பாதி மனித உருவமும் பாதி பாம்பு உருவமும் கொண்ட பதஞ்சலி முனிவர்; தன் இடைவிடாத தவத்திற்காக இறைவனிடமிருந்து புலியின் கால்களைப் பெற்றதால் 'வியாக்கிரமபாதர்' என்று பெயர் பெற்றவர்; இவர்களுடன் திருமூலனாகிய யானும் சேர்ந்து மொத்தம் எட்டு பேர்கள் ஆவோம்.
God himself came as Nandi Deva to be our guru, taught us the true meaning, and by his grace we came to bear the name "Nathar." Who are we? The four, Sanakar, Sanandhanar, Sanathanar and Sanatkumarar, who came to be called the great sages of Sivayoga because they excelled in that yoga; the sage Patanjali, an incarnation of Adishesha, half in human form and half in serpent form, who came to Thillai and watched God's own sacred dance with delight; and the one called Vyagrapadar, who received a tiger's feet from God for his unceasing penance. Together with these, I myself, Thirumoolan, make eight in all.
