உயிர்கள் தன்னை அடைய இறைவன் அருளிய சிவாகமங்களைத் தொகுத்தால், அவை பல கோடிகளாக இருக்கும். இருப்பினும், இறைவனை எண்ணி அவனருள் வேண்டி, அவன் கொடுக்கும் ஞானத்தை வைத்தே அவற்றை அறிந்துகொள்ள முடியும். அவ்வாறு இறைவன் கொடுத்த ஞானத்தைக் கொண்டு ஆகமத்தை உணராமல், வெறும் வார்த்தைகளைக் கொண்டு பொருள் புரியாமல் ஓதினால், அந்த எண்ணமுடியாத கோடிகள் அனைத்தும் நீர்மேல் எழுதிய எழுத்துக்கள் போல யாருக்கும் பயனில்லாமலேயே இருந்துவிடும்.
If one were to gather together all the Sivagamas that God graciously gave for beings to reach him, they would come to many crores. And yet they can only be understood through the wisdom God himself grants, when sought with a mind fixed on him and a longing for his grace. If, instead, one recites them as mere words, without understanding their meaning through the wisdom God gives, then all those uncountable crores become as useless to anyone as letters written upon water.
