Young women who sing songs about God, set to music, and dance displaying appropriate expressions, do not try, through those very songs, to realise God and attain liberation; instead they try only to gain wealth through their dancing. Those who take pleasure watching these women's dancing also fail to grasp its true meaning, and remain caught in this lesser pleasure merely watching them dance. The brahmins, whose duty is to recite the exalted Vedas with true understanding for the sake of the salvation of living beings, may wish for liberation, but without keeping to the disciplines, the vows, that duty requires, and reciting the Vedas and conducting sacrifices only for the wealth others give them, they become no different from these dancing women. Those who receive the sacrifices performed by such brahmins, likewise failing to grasp the true meaning and setting their minds only on worldly wealth, become like those who merely watch the women's dancing. And the brahmins who covet the wealth these patrons give go wherever such wealth can be found, turning their own exalted birth into a degraded one, and live out their lives in suffering.

Although the Vedas lay out both the ways to reach God and the disciplines, the vows, to be kept while following them, living beings who do not take these up with real devotion, and instead remain caught in mere lesser pleasure, wandering after worldly things, fail to gain the true fruit of their birth and fall into a degraded state. Rather than that, Thirumoolar declares here in grace, come to know God, the source of supreme bliss, through the Vedas, and attain liberation.
