தேவர்களும் அசுரர்களும் பாற்கடலைக் கடைந்தபோது அதிலிருந்து சீறி எழுந்த ஆலகால விஷத்தை, யாரையும் தீண்டாதவாறு தாமே அருந்தி அனைவரையும் காத்த தேவர்களின் தலைவன் அவன். அவ்விஷம் உள்ளே இறங்கிவிடாமல் கழுத்திலேயே தடுத்து நிறுத்திய, பேரொளி வீசும் நெற்றியை உடைய உமையம்மையாரைத் தன் உடலின் சரிபாதியாகக் கொண்ட சதாசிவமூர்த்தி, தம் குறைகளைத் தாண்டிய உறுதியோடு நெறிவழியில் செல்ல, இறைவனைத் தம் நெஞ்சத்திற்குள் வைத்துப் பூஜிக்கக்கூடியவர்களுடன், பெண் மானைச் சேர்ந்த ஆண் மான் போல எப்போதும் பிரியாது இணைந்து நிற்கின்றான்.
உண்மைப் பொருளான இறைவனை அடையும் ஆசையில், அவனை நெஞ்சில் வைத்துப் போற்றிப் புகழும் அடியவர்களின் நெஞ்சிலிருந்து, ஆணவம், அகங்காரம், கோபம் ஆகியவை அவர்களைப் பாதிக்காதவாறு தாமே எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, இறைவனை அடையவிடாமல் தடுக்கும் கர்மங்கள் அவர்கள் வழியில் குறுக்கிடாதபடி தடுத்து நிறுத்தி, அவர்கள் செல்லும் நேர்வழியில் அவர்களோடு இணைந்து நடந்து வந்து அவர்களைக் காத்தருள்வான் சதாசிவமூர்த்தி.
When the devas and the asuras churned the ocean of milk, the fierce halahala poison that rose up from it was drunk by him alone, so that it would touch no one else, and in this way he protected everyone as lord of the devas. Sadasivamurthy holds Umaiyammai, whose radiant forehead shines with great light and who held that poison at his throat, stopping it from going further within, as the exact other half of his own body. To those who, with a resolve that carries them past their own faults, walk the right path and hold God within their hearts to worship, he stands joined always, inseparable, like a male deer joined with its mate.
Out of their longing to reach the true God, devotees hold him in their hearts and praise him. From within their hearts, God himself takes on their egoism, self-importance and anger, so that these do not harm them. He stops the karmas that would block their reaching him from crossing their path, and walks together with them, joined as one, along the straight path they travel, protecting them all the way.
