வானப் பெருங்கொண்டல் மாலயன் வானவர்ஊனப் பிறவி ஒழிக்கும் ஒருவனைக்கானக் களிறு கதறப் பிளந்தஎம்கோனைப் புகழுமின் கூடலு மாமே.

வானத்திலிருக்கும் பெருத்த மழை மேகம் போல, மாயையால் குறைபட்டுக் கிடக்கும் உயிர்கள் அனைத்தின் பிறவியையும் அழித்து முக்தி அருளுபவனும், மந்திரத்தால் ஏவப்பட்ட காட்டு யானையின் உடலைப் பிளந்து அதன் தோலையே தன் ஆடையாக உடுத்திக்கொண்ட இறைவனின் புகழ்களைப் புகழ்ந்து பாடினால், அவன் அருள் பெற்று அவனுடன் இரண்டறக் கலந்துவிடலாம்.
வானத்துப் பெருமழை மேகம் வேறுபாடின்றி அனைத்தின் மேலும் சரிசமமாக மழை பொழிவதுபோல, இறைவன் தன் பேரருளால் திருமால், பிரம்மன், தேவர்கள், மனிதர்கள் என மாயையால் குறைபட்டுக் கிடக்கும் அனைவரின் மாயையையும் அழித்து அவர்கள் உய்யுமாறு அருள்கிறான். அப்படிப்பட்ட இறைவனை வெறும் மந்திரத்தால் கட்டுப்படுத்திவிடலாம் என்று எண்ணி, தாருகாவனத்து முனிவர்கள் தங்கள் ஒன்றுபட்ட சக்தியால் யாகக் குண்டத்திலிருந்து மந்திரசக்தியால் ஒரு காட்டு யானையைத் தோற்றுவித்து இறைவன் மேல் ஏவினார்கள். இறைவனோ அந்த யானையைக் காடே அதிரும்படி கதறச் செய்து இரண்டாகப் பிளந்து, அதன் தோலைத் தன் மேலாடையாகப் போர்த்தி, அதன் தலைமேல் கால் வைத்து கஜசம்ஹாரமூர்த்தியாகக் காட்சி தந்து, அம்முனிவர்களின் அறியாமையைப் போக்கி அருளினான். இவ்வாறு தன்னை எதிர்த்தவர்களுக்கும் சரிசமமாக அருள் வழங்கி, ஒரு தலைசிறந்த அரசனைப்போல உயிர்களைப் பாதுகாக்கும் இறைவனின் புகழ்களைப் புகழ்ந்து பாடினால், அவன் அருள் பெற்று முக்தி அடையலாம்.
Like the great rain-cloud in the sky, he destroys the birth of every being caught in the flaw of maya and grants them liberation. He is also the one who split apart the body of a wild elephant conjured by a mantra and wore its very hide as his garment. Sing the praises of this God, and you may receive his grace and merge with him completely, without division.
Just as a great rain-cloud in the sky pours rain equally on everything without distinction, God, out of his boundless compassion, destroys the maya of everyone caught in its flaw, Thirumal, Brahma, the gods, and human beings alike, and grants them release. Thinking they could control such a God by mere mantra, the sages of the Tharuka forest combined their power and, through mantra, conjured a wild elephant from the sacrificial fire, and sent it against him. God split that elephant in two, making the whole forest shake with its cry, draped its hide as his upper garment, placed his foot upon its head, and appeared as Gajasamharamurthy, dispelling the sages' ignorance and granting them his grace. Sing the praises of this God, who grants his grace equally even to those who oppose him, and who protects every being like the noblest of kings, and you may receive his grace and attain liberation.
