வெங்காயத்தையும் பெருங்காயத்தையும் ஒன்றாகக் கொதிக்க வைத்தாலும், அதிலிருந்து வரும் வாசனையை விடக் கருமையான கத்தூரியிலிருந்து வரும் வாசனை மேலானது. அதுபோலவே, உலகெங்கும் பல தெய்வங்களைத் தேடி அடைந்து அவர்களே இறைவன் என்று எண்ணி அவர்களுடன் கலந்து முயன்றாலும், அனைத்திற்கும் இறைவனான ஈசுவரனுடன் (சதாசிவமூர்த்தியுடன்) கலந்து பெறும் உறவுக்கு (பேரின்பத்திற்கு) அது சிறிதும் ஈடாகாது.
வெங்காயம் என்பது தூலமான உடலையும் (அன்னமய கோசம்), பெருங்காயம் என்பது நுண்ணிய உடலையும் (மனோமய கோசம்) குறிக்கும். இவ்விரு உடல்களும் உயிர்களுக்குள் கலந்திருந்தாலும், அது இறைவனுடன் கலந்து பெறும் சூக்குமமான உடலுக்கு ஈடாகாது. எனவே, உலகப் பற்றுக்கள் எவ்வளவு இன்பம் தந்தாலும், அவை இறைவனுடன் இரண்டறக் கலந்து பெறும் பேரின்பத்திற்கு ஈடாகாது.
Even if onion and asafoetida are boiled together, the scent that comes from black musk still exceeds theirs. In the same way, however many gods a person may seek out across this world, thinking that each of them is God and trying to unite with them, none of that comes anywhere close to the union, the supreme bliss, of joining with Ishvaran, who is God of all, Sadasivamurthy himself.
The onion stands for the gross body, the annamaya kosha, and the asafoetida for the subtle body, the manomaya kosha. Even though both of these bodies are mingled within a being, that mingling does not compare to the subtle body one gains by uniting with God. So however much pleasure worldly attachments give, none of it compares to the supreme bliss of merging completely, without division, with God.
