இறைவனை அடையும் உண்மையான வழிகளை உயிர்களுக்கு எடுத்துக்கூற இவ்வுலகத்திற்கு வந்த ஏழு நாதர்கள், அவரவர் இறைவனை உணர்ந்து இறை நிலையை அடைந்தனர். அந்த ஏழு நாதர்களில் முதலில் தோன்றியவன் திருமூலன் எனும் யான். அந்த வழிகள் அனைத்தையும் ஒன்பது தந்திரங்களாகவும், அத்தந்திரங்களைச் சார்ந்த மூவாயிரம் பாடல்களாகவும் யான் வழங்கினேன். இறைவன் வழங்கிய அழகிய ஆகமங்களின் பொருளை அழகான தமிழ்ச் சொற்களில் வழங்கியருளியதே இந்தத் திருமந்திர மாலை.
Seven Nathars came into this world to set out for living beings the true ways of reaching God, and each of them came to know God and attained the state of God themselves. I, Thirumoolan, am the first to appear among them. I set out all of those ways as nine tantirams, and as the three thousand verses belonging to those tantirams. Giving the meaning of the beautiful Agamas that God gave in beautiful Tamil words, this is the garland of the Thirumantiram.
