  பூச்செடிகளில் உள்ள இலைகளைத் தொட்டு, அதில் மலர்ந்திருக்கின்ற பூக்களைப் பறித்தெடுத்து, எமது தந்தையாகிய இறைவனுக்குச் சாற்ற வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணிக்கொண்டு,

  Touching the leaves on the flowering plants, plucking the blossoms that had opened on them, thinking that they must be offered to God my father,

  மலர்களைக் கோர்த்து மாலையாக்கிச் சாற்றி, அதனால் கிடைக்கின்ற பலனைப் பார்க்கலாம் என்று எதிர்பார்த்துக்கொண்டு இருந்தேன்.

  I strung the flowers into a garland and offered it, and waited expecting to see the fruit that would come of it.

  எந்தப் பலனும் கிடைக்காதபோது ஏன் என்று ஆராய்ந்தால், உண்மை இல்லாத தவறான கருத்துக்களைச் சொல்லுகின்ற நூல்களில் உள்ளதைக் கண்டு, அதன்படிச் செய்து இப்படித் தாழ்ந்துவிட்டேன் என்று உணர்ந்துகொண்டேன்.

  When no fruit came and I looked into why, I understood that I had seen what stood in books that speak wrong opinions with no truth in them, had acted according to them, and had sunk low in this way.

  அப்போது, எனது உள்ளத்திற்குள்ளே வீற்றிருக்கின்ற இறைவனின் அருளால், தலை உச்சியில் இருக்கின்ற பேரொளியாகிய இறை சக்தியைத் தொட்டு அடைந்து, தவத்தைக் காணுகின்ற வழிமுறை இதுவே என்று உணர்ந்துகொண்டேன்.

  Then, by the grace of God seated within my own heart, I touched and reached the divine power that is the great light at the crown of the head, and I understood that this itself is the way in which austerity is seen.
