  நுண்ணறிவு மிக்க அமைச்சர்களையும், வலிமை மிக்க யானைப் படைகளையும் கொண்ட உயர்ந்த பேரரசர்களாக இருந்தாலும்,

  Even those who stand as high emperors, with ministers of keen understanding and with mighty forces of elephants,

  பகை நாட்டு அரசன் அவர்கள் மேல் கொண்ட விரோதத்தால் எழுகின்ற போருக்குள் அகப்பட்டுக்கொண்டு அழிந்து போகின்றார்கள்; அப்படி அழிகின்றவர்களுக்கு நடுவில்,

  are caught inside the war that rises from the enmity an enemy king bears towards them, and they perish; and in the midst of those who perish so,

  இறைவன் தமது மாபெரும் கருணையால் வைத்து அருளிய ஒரு உண்மை ஞானத்தையும், அதனால் கிடைக்கின்ற முக்திப் பேற்றையும் குறிக்கோளாகக் கொண்டு,

  there are those who take as their aim the one true wisdom that God in his great compassion has placed for them, and the release that comes of it,

  ஒரு கணப்பொழுதும் இறைவனை மறவாமல் தவ நிலையில் நின்று, எப்போதும் அழிந்து போகாத நிலையில் இருப்பவர்களே தவசிகள் ஆவார்கள்.

  and who, not forgetting God for the blink of an eye, stand in the state of austerity and abide in a state that never perishes. They are the true ascetics.
