The body of a living being is one. It is bound and dragged by its senses, the five kinds of seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling and touching, and through them it sinks into the pleasure the body enjoys, settles into the anthill that is desire, and stays filled with that its whole life long. So the gross body and the subtle mind, both of them, sway along the way of their desires like a snake that spreads its hood and dances, and life is spent away. To change this, the mind, which is the one body, may be made to master and rule all five senses, and holding them within the control of one's own body, one may abide in meditation. This state itself is renunciation.
