  பிறவிக்குக் காரணமாக இருக்கின்ற வினைகளையும், அந்த வினைகளைத் தீர்ப்பதற்குச் செய்ய வேண்டிய கடமைகளையும், பிறவி எடுப்பதற்கு முன்பே இறைவனிடம் கேட்டுக்கொண்டு, பிறவியோடு கூட ஐந்து புலன்களும் வந்தன.

  The five senses came along with birth, having asked God even before birth for the deeds that cause birth and for the duties that must be done to work those deeds out.

  அவை அதனதன் கடமையைச் செய்வதற்கு ஏற்றபடி ஆசைகளின் வழியே வளைந்து என்னை நடக்க வைக்கின்றன; அதனை யான் கடைபிடிப்பது இல்லை.

  Each of them bends me along the way of desire, as suits the duty it has to do, and makes me walk that way; I do not follow it.

  தில்லையில் ஆடுகின்ற, விடை வாகனமாகிய நந்தியை உடையவனாகிய இறைவனுடைய மதிப்பிற்குரிய திருவடிகளை,

  The honoured sacred feet of the Lord who dances at Thillai and who has the bull for his mount,

  சென்று அடைகின்ற தவமுறையான இந்தச் செயலைச் செய்கின்ற கொள்கையை இறைவன் எமக்குத் தந்து அருளினான்.

  are what this act goes and reaches, and God has graciously given us the tenet of performing it as a way of tapas.
