  தூய்மையாக இருத்தல், இறையருளோடு இருத்தல், அளவான உணவு, பொறுமையோடு இருத்தல், நேர்மையுடன் இருத்தல்,

  Being pure, living by the grace of God, moderate in food, patient, and upright,

  பொய் பேசாது சத்தியத்தைக் கடைப்பிடித்தல், சத்தியத்திற்காக வைராக்கியத்தை வளர்த்தல் ஆகியவையும் இதில் அடங்கும்.

  holding fast to truth without speaking falsehood, and cultivating dispassion for the sake of truth are also part of this.

  காமத்தை எண்ணாதிருத்தல், களவு எண்ணாமலிருத்தல், கொலை எண்ணாமலிருத்தல் ஆகியவையும் சேரும்.

  Not thinking of lust, not thinking of theft, and not thinking of killing are also included.

  ஆகிய இந்தப் பத்துக் குணங்களையும் கொண்டவரே நியமத்தின் வழியின்படி இருப்பவர்.

  Whoever holds all these ten qualities together, that one alone lives by the way of niyama.
