உயிர்களின் வகைகளில் முதலாவதாக இருக்கும் விஞ்ஞானர், மாயையும் கன்மமும் நீங்கப்பெற்ற ஜீவன்முக்தர்களாக நான்கு வகைப்பட்டு இருப்பர். முதல் வகையினர் ஞானம் பெற்றும் ஆணவம் நீங்காத தஞ்ஞானர். இரண்டாம் வகையினர் அட்டவித்தீசுர நிலையை அடைந்த எஞ்ஞானர். மூன்றாம் வகையினர் ஏழு கோடி மந்திரங்களின் நிலையை அடைந்த மந்திர நாயகர். நான்காம் வகையினர், உண்மை ஞானமாகிய பேரறிவைப் பெற்று ஆணவ மலத்தையும் விட்டு நின்ற மெய்ஞ்ஞானர்.
Among the kinds of souls, the first, the vinjnanar, freed from both maya and karma, are of four kinds as jivan-muktar, those liberated while yet alive. The first kind, having attained wisdom but not yet free of egoism, are the thagnyanar. The second kind, who have reached the state of the eight lordly powers, are the egnyanar. The third kind, who have reached the state of the seven crore mantras, are the mantra-nayagar. The fourth kind, who have attained the great wisdom that is true knowledge and stand free even of the impurity of egoism, are the meignyanar.
