All souls that are born into this world as fetuses in the mother's womb are born carrying with them the sufferings that are the fruit of their own deeds. By God's compassion, those sufferings recede for a while and souls forget themselves; that sleeping state, which occurs daily, is nitya sangaram. The state in which life departs the body and only the soul remains is suddha sangaram. The dream state, in which the gross body and the subtle body are separated and the soul lies immersed in maya, held in a kevala state, is vaitta sangaram. When the soul that has settled all its deeds departs the gross body, the subtle body too is destroyed, and the soul that had stood alone merges inseparably with God, the true substance, so that the separateness of 'I' is wholly destroyed and it turns into Sivam itself, that is uyta sangaram.
