அனைத்து உயிர்களுக்கும் தந்தையாகவும் தலைவனாகவும் இருக்கும் இறைவனுக்குத் தரவேண்டிய அவிர்பாகத்தைத் தராமலும், அவரை மதிக்காமலும், இறைவனை அழிக்கும் நோக்கத்துடன் ஒரு மாபெரும் யாகத்தைச் செய்தான் தக்கன். அவனது அறியாமையைக் கண்டு சினம்கொண்ட ஈசன், அந்த யாகத்தையும் அவனது செருக்கையும் அழித்து அவனுக்கு நல்லறிவு கொடுக்க, மறக்கருணையுடன் வீரபத்திரர் எனும் பைரவ அவதாரமாக அந்த மாபெரும் யாகத் தீயிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்டார். அந்த மாபெரும் யாகத்தைச் செய்தவர்களும், அதை ஏற்க வந்த தேவர்களும், இறைவனின் கோப முகத்தைக் கண்ட மறுகணமே, அவனது அருள் இன்றி அந்த யாகத்தைப் பூர்த்தி செய்ய முடியாது என்பதை அறிந்தனர். இறைவனின் கோபத்தைக் கண்டு மிகவும் அஞ்சி, தம் நிலை தடுமாறி எல்லாத் திசைகளிலும் சிதைந்தோடினார்கள்.
தாம் செய்யும் எந்தச் செயலானாலும், மனம், வாக்கு, உடம்பு மூன்றையும் ஒருநிலைப்படுத்தி இறையருளுடன் செய்வதே வேள்வி. மனம், வாக்கு, உடம்பு மூன்றை மட்டுமே வைத்து இறையருள் இன்றிச் செய்வது தக்கன் வேள்வியாகும்.
Without giving the Lord, who is the father and lord of all life, the share due to him in the offering, and without honouring him, Daksha performed a great sacrifice meaning to destroy the Lord. Seeing his ignorance, an angry Isha, wishing to destroy that sacrifice and his arrogance and grant him true wisdom, appeared out of the sacrificial fire itself, in forgetful grace, as Bhairava in the form of Veerabhadra. The moment those who performed that great sacrifice, and the devas who had come to receive it, saw the Lord's wrathful face, they knew the sacrifice could not be completed without his grace. Terrified at the sight of the Lord's anger, they lost their footing and fled shattered in every direction.
Whatever act one performs, doing it with mind, speech and body held as one and joined to the Lord's grace is vēḷvi, true sacrifice. Doing it with mind, speech and body alone, without the Lord's grace, is Daksha's sacrifice.

Those who performed the sacrifice and the devas knew, the moment they saw the Lord's wrathful face, that the sacrifice could not be completed without his grace.

Terrified, they fled shattered in every direction. Doing mind, speech and body as one with the Lord's grace is vēḷvi; doing them without that grace is Daksha's sacrifice.
