உரைmeaning
உலக நன்மைக்காக இன்னொரு உயிரை உருவாக்கும் நோக்கத்தில் தம் துணையுடன் சேரும் உயிர்கள், இறைவனை அடைய தடையாக இருக்கும் காமம் என்னும் நோயில் சிக்காமல் இருக்கும்படி, இறைவனை அடைய வேண்டும் என்னும் குறிக்கோளுடன் ஒருநிலைப்பட்ட மனத்துடன் இறைவனை வேண்டினால், இறைவன் அந்த உயிரைக் காமம் என்னும் நோயிலிருந்து காப்பாற்றி, உலக நன்மைக்காக இன்னொரு உடலுடன் கூடிய உயிரை உருவாக்க மட்டுமே எண்ணி துணையுடன் சேரும் அந்த உயிருக்கு அருந்தவ யோகத்தை அருளுவார்.
இப்புராண நிகழ்வு நடந்த இடம் திருக்கொறுக்கை தலமாகும். சிவபெருமான் தியானத்தில் இருக்கும்போது, உலக நன்மைக்காக அவரது தியானத்தைக் கலைக்க வேண்டும் என்று இந்திரன் கேட்டுக்கொண்டதற்கு இணங்கி, மன்மதன் இறைவன்மேல் மலர்க்கணைகளைத் தொடுத்தான். அப்போதும் இறைவன் தம் நெற்றிக் கண்ணைத் திறந்து மன்மதனைப் பார்க்க, அந்த நெற்றிக்கண்ணிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்ட நெருப்பில் மன்மதன் எரிந்து சாம்பலானான். பின்னர் மன்மதனின் மனைவியான ரதி தேவி இறைவனை வேண்டிக்கொள்ள, இறைவன் மன்மதனை உருவமில்லாத அருவமாக மறுபடியும் உயிர்ப்பித்துக் கொடுத்தார்.
When souls, joining with their partner with the aim of creating another life for the world's good, hold a single-pointed mind and pray to the Lord with the resolve not to be caught in the illness called desire that stands as an obstacle to reaching him, the Lord saves that soul from the illness called desire, and grants the rare tapas-yoga to a soul that joins with its partner thinking only of creating another embodied life for the world's good.
The story behind this verse took place at the shrine of Thirukorukkai. While Shiva was in meditation, at Indra's request that his meditation be broken for the world's good, Manmatha loosed his flower arrows upon the Lord. Even then the Lord opened his third eye and looked upon Manmatha, and in the fire that came forth from that eye, Manmatha burned to ash. Afterward, when Manmatha's wife Rathi Devi pleaded with the Lord, the Lord brought Manmatha back to life again, without form, as the formless.
