The Lord who is inseparably mingled with every life everywhere, and who is himself first among the Vedas he recited to the world for every life's good, is not realized by souls, who instead needlessly harbour krodham, anger, against one another, lose their sense in that rage, forget that the Lord dwells within the next soul too, and commit many evil acts to destroy that soul. When souls plead, "My Lord, save us," the Lord destroys the asura quality called krodham through his own feet, using as his instrument the energy-filled chakras present within souls.
The story behind this verse took place at the shrine of Thiruvirkudi. Once Indra, filled with the conceit of "I", came to Kailash to behold Shiva. Knowing this, Shiva took the form of a guard and stood at the gate of Kailash, barring him from entering. Enraged, Indra struck Shiva with his vajra weapon. In his anger, Shiva opened his third eye. Realizing that the guard who barred him was Shiva himself, Indra, ashamed of the conceit that had made him act so, begged forgiveness. At that moment a drop of sweat that had formed on his body in his anger fell into the ocean of milk, and from it a child was born. That child seized Brahma's beard and pulled it, and unable to bear the pain, tears fell from Brahma's eyes, and that drop too fell upon the child. So the child, formed from Shiva's drop of sweat, the water of the ocean of milk, and Brahma's teardrop, was named Jalandharasura. When he grew up, he asked that the three worlds be made his servants and also asked for the boon of deathlessness. Brahma refused. Jalandharasura then obtained instead the boon that ruin would come to him only when his lawful wife Vrinda's mind ever turned unchaste. His outrages grew great, and at last he went to destroy Shiva himself. Shiva took the form of a brahmin, came and stood before the asura, drew a circle in the shape of a wheel on the ground with his foot, and said, "Take this wheel and place it on your head, it will destroy you." The prideful Jalandhara, sure that his wife's chastity would keep him from ruin, threw the challenge back. At this Shiva called upon Vishnu and told him to take the form of Jalandharasura and go before his wife Vrinda. Thinking her own husband had come, Vrinda welcomed him into the house. In that single moment of mistaking another for her husband, her mind was stained. At that very moment, the asura took up the wheel and placed it upon his head, and it severed his neck.

When Brahma refused him the three worlds and deathlessness, his wife Vrinda's chastity became his shield instead. As Jalandhara went to destroy Shiva, he himself placed on his head the wheel Shiva had given, and in the very moment Vishnu went before his wife and her mind was stained, that wheel severed his neck.
