உரைmeaning
கரிய நிறமேனியும் பார்வையற்ற இரு கண்களும் கொண்ட அந்தகன் என்னும் அசுரன் கடுந்தவம் செய்து சாகா வரம் பெற்று, பதினான்கு உலகங்களையும் வென்று, அவற்றில் வாழும் அனைத்து உயிர்களையும் கொடுமைப்படுத்தினான். இவனது கொடுமையைத் தாங்க முடியாத தேவர்கள் இறைவனிடம் சென்று தங்களைக் காக்குமாறு வேண்டினர். மனமிறங்கிய இறைவன் பைரவர் வடிவெடுத்து, குருத்து போன்ற மூன்று இலைகளில் நடு இலை மட்டும் நீண்டு கூர்மையுடன் இருக்கும் சூலாயுதத்தால் அந்தகாசுரனைக் கொன்று தேவர்களைக் காத்தார்.
அறியாமையால் மாயையில் மயங்கி, கண் தெரியாமல் இருளில் இருக்கும் மனம், உயிரை இறைவனை அடையவிடாமல் தீய எண்ணங்களால் வதைத்துக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறது. ஒரு நாள் உயிர் இறைவா, என்னைக் காப்பாற்று என்று வேண்ட, மாயையில் சிக்கி இருளில் கண் தெரியாமல் இருக்கும் அந்த மனத்திற்கு இறைவன் ஒளியைக் கொடுத்து, அறியாமை என்னும் தீய எண்ணங்களைக் கொன்று உயிரைக் காத்தருளினான்.
Andhaka, an asura of dark hue with two sightless eyes, did fierce tapas and won the boon of deathlessness, conquered all fourteen worlds and tormented every life living in them. Unable to bear his cruelty, the devas went to the Lord and begged him to save them. The Lord's heart softened, and taking the form of Bhairava, he killed Andhakasura with a trident whose middle blade alone, among its three leaf-like points, was drawn out long and sharp, and so saved the devas.
The mind, bewildered by ignorance in illusion, sightless and sitting in darkness, keeps tormenting the life within with evil thoughts and does not let it reach the Lord. When one day the life pleads, "My Lord, save me," the Lord gives light to that mind caught in illusion and sitting sightless in darkness, kills the evil thoughts called ignorance, and saves the life with his grace.
