உரைmeaning
மனதை மயக்கும் மதுவைச் சமயத்தின் பெயரால் அருந்திச் சமயத்தை அழுக்காக்குகின்றனர் மூடர்கள். மயக்கம் தரும் மதுவை அருந்தும் மூடர்கள், சமயத்தை ஆராய்ந்து அறியும் திறன் இல்லாதவர்களாக மாபெரும் மூடர்களாகின்றனர். உலகப் பற்று என்னும் பெரும் மயக்கத்திலிருந்து விடுபட்டு இறைவனை அடைய வேண்டும் என்ற தெளிவு இருப்பவர்கள் கூட, சமய வழியில் சென்று மது அருந்தி வழிபட்டால் உலக மயக்கம் தெளிந்து இறைவனை அடையலாம் என்று எண்ணி மது அருந்தினால், அந்த மது அன்றே அவர்களை மயக்கமடையச் செய்யும்.
மது, கஞ்சா போன்ற போதை தரும் பொருட்களை, இறைவனை அடைய வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணிச் சமயத்தின் பெயரால் அருந்தினாலும், அந்தப் போதை மயக்கம் மேலும் அவர்களை மூடர்களாக்கி மயக்கத்திலேயே வைத்திருக்கும்.
Fools drink the liquor that clouds the mind in the name of religion, and so make religion itself unclean. The fools who drink the clouding liquor become the greatest fools of all, people without the capacity to examine religion and know it. Even those who have the clarity to want release from the great clouding called attachment to the world and to reach God: if they take the religious route and drink liquor, thinking that by worshipping in that way the worldly clouding will clear and God can be reached, that very liquor will cloud them that same day.
Even when intoxicants such as liquor and cannabis are taken in the name of religion, with the thought of reaching God, that intoxicating cloud only makes such people greater fools and keeps them in the clouding itself.
