உண்மையான ஞானத்தைக் கற்றவர்கள், உயிரோடு கூடிய உடல் என்றும் நிலையானது இல்லை என்று உணர்ந்து, தம்மால் முடிந்த அளவு அற வழியிலும் தவ வழியிலும் சென்று இறைவனை அடைய முயற்சிக்கின்றனர். உண்மையான ஞானத்தைக் கற்றுக்கொள்ளாத, உயிரோடு கூடிய உடல், உலக வாழ்க்கையையே வாழ்ந்துகொண்டு, கொடுமையான வினையின் பயனால் வரும் துன்பங்களையே அனுபவித்துக்கொண்டு வாழ்க்கையை வீணாக்குகின்றது.
Those who have learned true wisdom realise that the body joined with life is never a permanent thing, and so, as far as they are able, they go by the way of righteousness and by the way of penance and strive to reach God. The body joined with life that has not learned true wisdom lives out the worldly life alone, undergoes only the sorrows that come as the fruit of cruel deeds, and so wastes its life away.
