God, who gave birth itself, a birth that dies away little by little each day, also, out of his boundless compassion for living beings, gave them the love that arises out of that very birth. Yet even knowing this, human beings fix their love only upon the desire for worldly attachments, rather than fixing their love upon God, saying 'the father who created us, our own Lord,' and seeking the way to reach him.
