Rainwater is like nectar. It is through rainwater alone that many kinds of trees, the areca palm, the coconut palm, the sugarcane and the banana, spring up in this world, bearing fruit of nectar-like sweetness. Yet this same rain that gives nectar also gives rise, in this world, to trees such as the strychnine tree, which bears poison.
Note: just as rainwater falls without distinction on the tree that bears sweet fruit and on the plant that bears poison, so too must living beings extend the love within them, without distinction, to all living beings.
