உரைmeaning
பூணூலும் குடுமியும் அணிந்துகொண்டால் மட்டும் இறைவனை உணர்ந்த அந்தணர் ஆகிவிட மாட்டார். பூணூல் பருத்தியால் ஆனது; குடுமி தலைமுடியைச் சிரைத்துச் செய்யப்பட்டது. பூணூலுக்கோ குடுமிக்கோ ஒருவரை இறைவனை உணர்ந்த அந்தணராக மாற்றும் சக்தி இல்லை. பூணூல் வேதாந்தம் கற்றவரின் குறியீடு; குடுமி இறை ஞானம் பெற்றவரின் குறியீடு. இறைவன் அருளிய வேதாந்தங்களைத் தம் குருவின் வழி முறைப்படிக் கற்று, அவற்றின் பொருளை உணர்ந்து, இறைவனை உணர்ந்தபின் பூணூலும் குடுமியும் அணிந்தவர்களே அந்தணர் என்னும் சொல்லுக்குத் தகுதியானவர்கள்.
Wearing the sacred thread and the tuft alone does not make one a brahmin who has realised God. The sacred thread is made of cotton; the tuft is made by shaving the hair on the head. Neither the sacred thread nor the tuft has the power to turn a person into a brahmin who has realised God. The sacred thread is the symbol of one who has learned Vedanta; the tuft is the symbol of one who has attained divine wisdom. Only those who have learned the Vedanta that God granted, in due order through their guru, grasped its meaning, realised God, and then worn the sacred thread and the tuft, are worthy of the name brahmin.
