The brahmins who wished to hear the Vedanta that God granted, even after hearing it, do not give up the desires and attachments they hold as their own. The end of Vedanta is to give up worldly desires and attachments and reach God. The place where desire ends is itself the end of Vedanta. One who has heard and grasped the meaning of Vedanta is one who has given up desire.
The gist: only one who has studied and grasped the Veda and given up desire is truly a brahmin.
