  தம்மிடம் இருந்த ஆடைகளையே திரும்பத் திரும்ப அணிந்ததால் அவை கிழிந்துபோயின; அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கையும் துன்பப்பட்டுக் கசந்துபோனது.

  Because they wore the same clothes they had again and again, those clothes have torn; their lives too have grown bitter with suffering.

  அவருக்கென்று இருந்த துணையும், பிறந்த குழந்தைகளும், பெற்ற தாய் தந்தையரும், உடன்பிறந்த சகோதர சகோதரிகளும் என அனைவருமே அவர்கள்மேல் அன்பில்லாமல் விலகிப்போய்விட்டனர்.

  Their spouse, their own children, the parents who bore them, and their own brothers and sisters, all of them, have turned away without love for them.

  அவர்களுக்குத் தானமாகவோ கடனாகவோ பொருள் கொடுப்பவர் யாரும் இல்லை; சிறப்பான நாட்கள் என ஒன்றும் இல்லாமல் போனதால் எதையும் கொண்டாடுவதும் இல்லாமல் போனது.

  There is no one left to give them anything, whether as a gift or as a loan; and because there were no days of celebration left to them at all, there was nothing left to celebrate either.

  முன்பு தலைநிமிர்ந்து நடந்த நடையும் இப்போது இல்லாமல் போனது; இவர்கள் வெறும் இயந்திரம் போலவே தம் நாட்களைக் கழித்து வாழ்கின்றனர்.

  The upright walk with which they once walked, head held high, is gone now; they live out their days like mere machines.
