  பௌர்ணமி அன்று முழுவதாகத் தோன்றும் நிலா, பிறகு பதினாறு கலைகளில் சிறிது சிறிதாகத் தேய்ந்து, அமாவாசை அன்று முற்றிலும் மறைந்துவிடும் வழக்கத்தை ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் காண்பினும்,

  Though every month they see the moon appear full on the day of the full moon and then wane little by little through its sixteen digits until it vanishes entirely on the new moon,

  அதன் பொருளை உணராமல் இருக்கின்றனர் மூடர்கள்.

  fools do not grasp what it means.

  உயிர்களின் இந்த மூடத்தனத்தால் அவர்கள் செய்யும் பல வினைகளைக் கண்டு கோபம் கொள்ளும் எமதர்மன், அவர்களை மீண்டும் பிறக்கவைக்கும் குழிகளை, அதாவது ஆசைகளை, வைத்தவுடன், அந்தக் குழிகளில் ஆசையால் சென்று விழுகின்றன உயிர்கள்.

  Because of this foolishness of theirs, Yama, the god of death, grows angry at the many deeds they perform, and the moment he sets down the pits, that is, the desires, that will make them be born again, these souls go and fall into those pits out of desire.

  அப்படி ஆசையில் விழுந்தபின், இளமை அழிந்து முதுமை பெற்று இறக்கும் தறுவாயில் எமனைக் கண்டு, ஏன் இப்படி நமக்கு நேர்கிறது என்று திகைப்பு மாறாமல் இருக்கின்றனர் இந்த மூடர்கள்.

  Having fallen into desire in this way, when their youth perishes and old age comes and, at the point of death, they see Yama, these fools still do not lose their bewilderment at why this is happening to them.
