There is a pot, rice and a ladle. To cook rice with these three, one must set them on a hearth and burn five sticks of firewood beneath it. As the firewood burns, the rice, watched and cooked just right, turns into rice grain that becomes food that nourishes the body. In the same way, within this perishable body there is a rice that does not bring decay. Through meditation, using the pot that is the body, and the ladle that is the ida and pingala channels, if one cooks the rice that is the breath with the five sticks of firewood that are the five vital airs, prana (the breath of life), apana (the breath of excretion), samana (the breath of digestion), udana (the breath of sound) and vyana (the breath of action), the breath rises through the sushumna channel, reaches the Sahasradala, and turns into rice that is nectar. That nectar-rice is the very food that nourishes the soul. The soul that continues to eat that food does not perish even when the time allotted to its body comes to an end; it continues to live on, realize God within itself, and remain in supreme bliss.
The soul lives in the body only until the time allotted to it comes to an end; once that ends, the body perishes. But if one wishes to reach God while keeping the body from perishing, one may raise the breath up through the sushumna channel, reach the Sahasradala, obtain and drink the nectar there, and so remain, soul still within that same body, in supreme bliss with God.
