உரைmeaning
மண்ணால் கட்டப்பட்ட ஒரு கோட்டை இருக்கிறது. அந்தக் கோட்டையிலிருந்து இரண்டுவித தாளங்களின் ஓசைகள் எப்போதும் கேட்டுக்கொண்டே இருக்கின்றன. அந்தக் கோட்டைக்குள் ஐந்து சிற்றரசர்கள் இருக்கின்றார்கள்; அவர்களோடு அவர்களின் தலைவனான பேரரசன் ஒருவனும் அங்கே இருக்கிறான். இருக்கும் காலம் முடிந்ததும் அந்தப் பேரரசன் வெளியே சென்றுவிட, அவனுடனேயே ஐந்து சிற்றரசர்களும் சென்றுவிடுகின்றனர். அவர்கள் சென்றபின் அந்தக் கோட்டை மீண்டும் மண்ணோடு மண்ணாகி அழிந்துபோகிறது. இதில் கோட்டை என்பது உயிரின் உடல். தாளங்கள் என்பது உயிர் உள்ளிழுக்கும் மூச்சும் வெளிவிடும் மூச்சும் ஆகும் - இவை இரண்டும் சேர்ந்தே வாழ்நாளைக் கணக்கிடுகின்றன. ஐந்து சிற்றரசர்கள் என்பது உடலிலிருக்கும் ஐந்து புலன்கள் - கண் என்னும் பார்த்தல், காது என்னும் கேட்டல், மூக்கு என்னும் நுகர்தல், வாய் என்னும் பேசுதல், தோல் என்னும் தொடுதல். பேரரசன் என்பவன் இறைவனே. உயிர்கள் இழுத்து விடும் மூச்சுகளின் வரையறுக்கப்பட்ட எண்ணிக்கை முடிந்தபோது, அவர்களின் உடலிலிருந்து உயிர் பிரிந்து, உடல் அழிந்து மண்ணோடு மண்ணாய்ப் போய்விடும்.
There stands a fortress built of earth. From within that fortress two kinds of drumbeats are always heard. Inside the fortress live five minor kings, and together with them their lord, a great king, also dwells there. When his allotted time comes to an end, the great king departs, and along with him all five minor kings depart too. Once they have gone, the fortress crumbles once more into the earth it was built of and is destroyed. Here, the fortress is the soul's body. The two drumbeats are the breath drawn in and the breath let out, which together reckon the span of one's life. The five minor kings are the five senses within the body: sight, the eye; hearing, the ear; smell, the nose; speech, the mouth; and touch, the skin. The great king is God himself. When the fixed number of breaths a soul is to draw comes to an end, the soul departs from the body, and the body is destroyed and returns to earth.
