தென்னங்கீற்றுகளால் பின்னப்பட்ட கூரையும் அதைத் தாங்கியிருக்கும் கழியும் நீண்ட காலம் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டபின் ஒரு நாள் விழுந்துவிடும். அதுபோலவே, நல்வினை தீவினை ஆகிய இருவகை வினைகளால் பின்னப்பட்ட இந்த உடலெனும் கூரையும், அதைத் தாங்கியிருக்கும் மூச்செனும் கழியும், அந்த இருவினைகளின் பயன்களை முழுவதும் அனுபவித்தபின் முதுமை பெற்று, ஒரு நாள் மூச்சு வெளியேறி இறந்துவிடும். கூரை இருந்தவரையில் அதனடியில் வசித்து வந்தவர்கள் கூரை விழுந்தபின் அதனோடு சேர்ந்து விழுவதில்லை. அதுபோலவே, ஒருவன் வாழும்வரை அவனோடு கூட இருந்து அவனால் பயன்பெற்ற மனைவியும் குழந்தைகளும், அவன் இறந்தபின் அவனோடு சேர்ந்து இறப்பதில்லை. உயிர் இறந்து மேலுலகத்திற்குத் தனியாகச் செல்லும்போது, பாதுகாவலர்கள் போலத் துணைக்கு வருவது, அந்த உயிர் வாழும்போது செய்த விரதங்களின் பலன்களும் இறையருளால் பெற்ற ஞானமும் மட்டுமே. மற்ற எதுவும் அந்த உயிரோடு வருவதில்லை. எனவே வாழும்வரை இறைவனை நினைத்துச் செயல்களைச் செய்து, குருவின் அருள்பெற்று ஞானத்தை வளர்ப்பதே நல்லது.
A roof woven of coconut fronds, and the pole that holds it up, fall one day after long use. In the same way this roof that is the body, woven of the two kinds of deed, good and evil, and the pole that is the breath which holds it up, grow old once the fruits of both have been fully experienced, and one day the breath goes out and it dies. Those who lived under the roof do not fall together with it when it falls. In the same way the wife and children who lived alongside a man and benefited from him do not die together with him when he dies. When the soul dies and goes alone to the world above, the only things that come with it, like guards, are the fruits of the vows it kept while alive and the wisdom it received by God's grace. Nothing else goes with that soul. So while one lives it is good to act with God in mind, to receive the guru's grace, and to grow in wisdom.
