In this verse Arunagirinathar admits honestly that his mind has lost its bearings, wandered aimlessly, and fallen into confusion, and he asks in distress whether he must simply perish this way for nothing. Even in that despair, he turns to Murugan, calling him the one born of the sacred river, the lord of the bliss of true knowledge, the valiant one who crushed the arrogance of the demon sons of Diti. Without hiding his own weakness, he still places his trust in Murugan's strength and grace, and the verse becomes the voice of a devotee who has fallen low yet refuses to give up hope.
